There are four types of packaging that are commonly found in the market

1. Flexible non-airtight packaging: this is the most economical kind of packaging. It is usually used by small local bakeries, as they guarantee a fast supply. The coffee beans can be consumed in a timely manner. Coffee beans under this packaging method can only be stored for a short period of time.

2. Airtight packaging: After filling the coffee, vacuum and seal it. Due to the formation of carbon dioxide during the roasting process, this packaging can only be packaged after the coffee has been left for a period of time to degass, so there is a storage interval of several days. Coffee beans sit for a longer period of time than ground coffee. Since it does not need to be separated from the air during storage, it is low-cost. The coffee under this packaging should be used up within 10 weeks.

3. One-way exhaust valve packaging: After roasting, the coffee is placed in a special one-way exhaust valve. This exhaust valve allows the gas to go out, but not in. There is no need for a separate storage stage, but there is a slight loss of aroma due to the deflation process. It avoids the formation of spoilage flavors, but does not prevent the loss of aromas.

4. Pressurized packaging: Specially designed coffee beans bags are the most expensive preservation method, but they have an impressive ability to keep coffee fresh for up to two years. Just moments after the beans have been roasted, they are vacuum-sealed within these bags. An inert gas is then introduced, carefully maintaining optimal pressure levels inside the package. Stored under such conditions, the coffee beans’ fragrant essence infuses into the fats, significantly enhancing the final beverage’s aromatic profile.
